Banking: ATMs, 24-hour banking and phone banking are cutting branch utilisation, creating surplus staff. Most vulnerable: tellers, clerks, supervisors.

Media/Entertainment: Dwindling revenues. Huge programming spends are not creating proportionate increase in viewership. Most likely to go are administrative workers. Relatively safe: writers, directors.

Manufacturing: Overcapacity and mergers are forcing cement and pharmaceuticals companies to pair up. Most vulnerable: staff of companies being taken over.

Adervertising: As top companies corner large mnc business, small fry have no option but to merge or shut shop. Vulnerable: client servicing people and administrative staff.

Diversified Groups: Old-style companies like Tisco, Grasim, Siemens are going back to core competencies. Most likely to go: people above 50 or those unwilling to relocate and upgrade skill sets.
