Actress Kriti Vij, who has been part of projects such as ‘Baked’, ‘What the Folks’, ‘Love Travel Repeat’, ‘Illegal’ and ‘Chalo Koi Baat Nahin’ among others; now is set to feature in crime investigation thriller series called 'Aakhri Sach', which is set to be released on Disney+ Hotstar on August 25, 2023.

Talking about the project, Kriti shared with Outlook, "So ‘Aakhri Sach’ is a fictional story with fictional characters inspired by a real event which went down in history as one of the most bizarre and horrifying cases. The show follows the crime investigation that uncovers complex events and dynamics of a family. My role in the show is that of a girl called Anshika who is part of this family. She is someone who has a 9 to 5 job at a company. Along with that, she is also in the process of getting married to someone she has met through an arranged marriage set up."

Sharing about how she prepped for the role, she informed us, "Well I think as an actor, every project demands a different sort of preparation, and for this one, I was acutely aware that although it was a fictional story and character, it was still inspired from a real person, which was a first for me. This case was also one that was mysterious, complex and heart wrenching all at once. So, I wanted to keep my personal emotional response to the story at bay. I delved into some research about the true story that this was based on and news articles etc that gave me some context and also some other stories and documentaries to familiarise myself with similar sorts of cases etc but I tried not to overindulge."

She further added, "It was definitely a horrifying case and the family in the story went through a bizarre and strange communal experience but on an individual level, the characters were leading very normal lives. For instance, Anshika is a hard working girl who goes for a 9 to 5 job. She has cousins that she discusses her love life with. She is of the age that her family would have liked to see her get married. She is meeting those prospects on a regular basis. Meets a boy through this setup that she connects with and has fondness for. These are very regular normal events that take place in her life; however, as a family, they all share a secret and function in a way that is beyond one’s scope of understanding."

Describing her working experience on the show, she mentioned, "Unfortunately, I didn’t have any scenes with Tamannaah because we were part of two separate tracks but she has done a fantastic job in the show. Abhishek, ofcourse, I worked closely with and he was nothing short of amazing. In fact all of us actors on set, very quickly came to feel close and family like with each other. Sometimes, I love watching the shooting of scenes in which I’m not involved because it really helps me understand another actor’s imagination and take on the visualisation. So, even in scenes I wasn’t there, I was sometimes on set just observing. That was great learning!"

Lastly, talking about her working experience with the director, she added, "Robbie Grewal, the director of the show was incredibly patient, sensitive and extremely articulate with his brief so within the first week of working with him, it became quite clear the sort of vibe he wanted to set for the show. He is definitely one of my favourites and I can’t wait to work with him again in the future."

Helmed by director Robbie Grewal, the series is inspired by the case that shook the nation. The series stars Tamannaah Bhatia along with Abhishek Banerjee, Shivin Narang, and Rahul Bagga, among others.
