ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, PAK Vs SA Highlights: Pakistan Humble South Africa, Revive Semifinal Hopes

Pakistan produced an inspired performance to knock out laggards South Africa with a 49-run win in the 30th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 at Lord's, London on Sunday. Catch highlights and score of PAK vs SA match here

Pakistan officially eliminated lacklustre South Africa to revive their chances of making the semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 with a comfortable 49-run win at Lord's, London on Sunday. Get the highlights and score of PAK vs SA here.

Here's what happened: Batting first, Pakistan posted 308 for seven with Haris Sohail's 59-ball 89 being the highlight of their innings. In reply, South Africa were stopped at 259 for nine in 50 overs.

Post-match reactions:

Sarfaraz Ahmed, winning captain: A complete team performance. I think a couple of team combinations didn't allow us to play him [Haris Sohail] before. But he did well after getting his chance. Sometimes, change is good. He batted like Jos Buttler. We have to work hard on our fielding. We dropped so many catches. All three matches are important.

Faf du Plessis, losing captain: We are not playing great cricket. We didn't bowl well. Target was 20-25 more on that track. It has been case of confidence. We're working hard, putting in the practice. But confidence in sport is an amazing thing. When you are playing well, the ball just falls in your court. Imran has been amazing. There haven't been enough guys like Imran standing up and that is why we finding ourselves in a position that we are in.

Haris Sohail, MoM: It's tough when you're sitting out and waiting for your turn. But my goal was to make the most of my opportunities.

For the second time, after 2003, South Africa have failed to make the knock-outs. They have made the semis four times, quarters twice. Hope they sign off on a high by winning the remaining fixtures.

For Pakistan, this is possibly the trigger they needed to launch a sustained campaign. Five points from six matches and they can end up with 11 points. That will make other teams very, very uncomfortable.

With just three points from seven outings, South Africa are out of the tournament while Pakistan could still sneak into the semifinals, provided they win their remaining matches and other results go in their favour.

10:59 PM IST: Mohammad Amir on with the last over of the match. Andile Phehlukwayo takes a couple off doubles, then a run-out appeal. Phehlukwayo survives. Another double. A four to deep extra cover. A dot. Hit on the leg. Phehlukwayo is in pain. A single to end the match. 11 runs from the over. SA-259/9. Pakistan win by 49 runs.

After 81 without loss inside 15 overs, Babar Azam played a classic number three innings, scoring 69. Then came Haris Sohail. And blasted 89 off 59, with Imam Wasim helping with a 15-ball 23.

For the Proteas, Imran Tahir takes two wickets to overtake Alan Donald (38) as South Africa's leading wicket-taker in World Cup. Tahir now has 39 wickets. Lungi Ngidi got three.

If South Africa chase it down, it will become a record chase.

1:55 PM IST: Lord's -- Home of Cricket, the Mecca of Cricket, Cricket's Holy of Holies -- is ready for its Cricket World Cup 2019 debut.

The two sides were involved in a keenly contested ODI series in South Africa in January as a part of their respective build up to the World Cup. But everything has fallen apart for both the sides.

They have one win each so far, and both are languishing in the bottom half of the table. But, Pakistan somehow still have a chance to sneak into the last four. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Proteas.

Pakistan have stayed true to their unpredictable nature -- losing to another unpredictable side West Indies, defending champions Australia and arch-rivals India while beating hosts England. Their match against Asian rivals Sri Lanka was however abandoned. Now, they will need to win all their remaining matches and hope for other results go in their favour, like washouts.

South Africa have been the biggest disappointment. They suffered a 104-run defeat by hosts England in the tournament opener, then lost to Bangladesh by 21 runs before India thrashed them by six wickets. It was followed by a no-result against the West Indies, and then beat minnows Afghanistan. But New Zealand beat them by four wickets.
