Indian long jumper Murali Sreeshankar has qualified for Paris 2024 Summer Olympics en route to his silver medal triumph at Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok. 

An effort of 8.37m (-1.1) has ensured a silver medal for the 24-year-old athlete.

Yu Tang Lin of Chinese Taipei notched up 8.40m (+0.3) to pocket the gold medal while his Chinese counterpart Mingkun Zhang sealed the third place with an 8.08m leap.

Murali breached the 8+m on five instances in the competition, becoming the first Indian field athlete to qualify for the big-ticket event in 2024.

The career-best leap of 8.41m propelled the long-jumper to a Budapest World Championships spot in August. The record came during the qualification stage of the National Inter-State Championships in Bhuvaneshwar.
