Most professional fighters dedicate every waking moment to perfecting their craft inside the ring. But for Bampara Kouyate, the pursuit of excellence extends far beyond the confines of Muay Thai, encompassing a different stage where precision, confidence, and artistry also reign supreme — the catwalk.

The #2-ranked featherweight Muay Thai contender and model is preparing for his high-stakes clash with Shadow Singha Mawynn at ONE Fight Night 35: Buntan vs. Hemetsberger on Prime Video on Friday, September 5, at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Leading up to this co-main event bout in the Thai capital, “Bambi” split his time between training camps and fashion shoots, managing a lifestyle that few athletes could handle.

In doing so, the 29-year-old Malian-Frenchman has carved out a unique niche in combat sports, proving that the warrior mentality that makes him dangerous in the ring translates seamlessly to the world of high fashion.

When Instagram Changed Everything

Kouyate didn’t plan on becoming a model at first. Like many of the best opportunities in life, it arrived unexpectedly through a direct message that seemed too good to be true.

While he was focused entirely on establishing himself as one of the world’s elite Muay Thai fighters, a message appeared in his Instagram inbox. But his reaction was the same as most people receiving unsolicited offers online.

He said:

“Actually, I got a DM (direct message) from an agent on Instagram, and I didn’t reply because I thought it was a scam. Then I realized this was something real.

“He asked me to sign with big agencies around the world, like in Italy, London, New York, Paris. So I just started like this, and then I went to Milan Fashion Week.”

Living At Maximum Intensity

Balancing two demanding careers in completely different worlds requires energy, organization, and mental flexibility that pushes human limits.

For Kouyate, his lifestyle isn’t just busy – it’s chaotic. But he’s driven by a philosophy that embraces productivity over comfortable routines.

The logistics of coordinating training schedules around photo shoots, managing flights between fight camps and fashion weeks, and maintaining peak physical condition for both athletic performance and aesthetic requirements would overwhelm most people.

Yet for the Team Mehdi Zatout standout, this intensity isn’t a burden but a source of fulfillment.

“It’s been completely different and very intense to combine both. A lot of travel, a lot of shootings, training, flights. My life is very intense, but I love it. I really love it, actually, to be active and feel productive.

“This feeling for me, it’s just amazing. To do something that I love, and get money for it — that’s just amazing. I’m just very grateful to life, and I love it.”

The Artist’s Philosophy

At the core of Kouyate’s success lies a fundamental philosophy that connects these seemingly disparate pursuits through artistic expression.

Rather than viewing them as separate careers requiring different skill sets, he has identified the common thread that makes excellence possible in both arenas.

This perspective transforms both Muay Thai and modeling into different manifestations of the same creative impulse, elevating both activities beyond their surface-level appearances into an art form.

His emphasis on personality over mere physical attributes reveals sophisticated understanding of what makes modeling successful at the highest levels. He’s not becoming someone different for each career, the pride of Mali and France brings his complete self to every situation.

In fact, Kouyate insists that his uniqueness as a fighter chasing a shot at ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai is the same person who makes him valuable in fashion — and he’s out to prove it this weekend.

He concluded:

“It’s extremely different things, but the main part is art. For me, I see the artistic part from fashion and from Muay Thai. For me, it’s just art, and I’m an artist.

“I’m like a painter. Every hit is a brush stroke. And when I catwalk, it’s the same. I try to be as handsome as I can, to represent the clothes that I wear.”
