Chelsea host Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Saturday in gameweek six as both sides look for a lift. Chelsea sit 10th in the Premier League table and want to end a three-match top-flight run without success. Bournemouth are 17th and still waiting for their first league win of the season.

The game matters for both clubs. Xabi Alonso’s side need to steady a season that began with goals but has since been hit by defensive lapses. Marco Rose’s side have shown some life outside the league, yet their winless Premier League start has left them close to the bottom.

Chelsea’s recent record sums up the pressure. Their league form reads W-W-L-D-L, while Bournemouth’s stands at L-D-D-D-L. Saturday’s meeting gives both sides a chance to halt a poor domestic run.

Chelsea started fast. They needed three goals to beat Fulham at Craven Cottage and four to get past Brighton & Hove Albion. They also overturned a 2-0 deficit against Leeds United in the EFL Cup and finished with a 6-3 win.

That cup comeback came after a 2-1 loss away to the reigning Premier League champions. Since losing to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, Chelsea have not won in the league. The bigger problem is at the back — they have yet to keep any league opponent below two goals this season.

Bournemouth arrive with their own concerns. Rose’s team are 17th after a winless start in the Premier League, but their season has not been without positives. They took maximum points in their Europa League debut in mid-September and then beat Lincoln City 4-0 in the EFL Cup.

The injury list has not helped. Alex Scott has suffered a thigh injury and could be out until November. Eli Junior Kroupi is already absent for the 2025-26 season, leaving Bournemouth shorter on attacking options and energy.

Their record in this fixture also shows the size of the task. Bournemouth are chasing a first Stamford Bridge victory dating back to December 2019 and are trying to end a 10-match winless streak against Chelsea. Still, half of those 10 matches finished level, three of their five defeats were narrow and their last two visits to Stamford Bridge both ended 2-2.

Chelsea could at least welcome back options. Marco Palestra and Emmanuel Emegha have both been seen in training this week and may return in some capacity. Moises Caicedo and Reece James remain uncertain.

Cole Palmer will be checked after missing the recent international break. Joao Pedro may also miss out after sitting out the September-October international break with Brazil because of a knee issue. Alonso has already used both back-three and back-four setups at Chelsea, so this weekend is expected to showcase another variation.

Bournemouth also have problems to manage. Julian Araujo has a thigh issue and Justin Kluivert has a muscle problem. Veljko Milosavljevic is dealing with a quad issue and Amine Adli has a calf issue, leaving Rose with decisions to make before the trip to London.

Marcus Tavernier is Bournemouth’s only player with more than one goal this season. He has already netted on the road at Manchester City and Newcastle United, and he also scored in May’s 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest. That means he has scored in three straight Premier League away matches and is now aiming to make it four consecutive away games overall.

Chelsea has made a sensational start against Bournemouth, taking an instant 1-0 lead at Stamford Bridge under Alonso's side. Cole Palmer sparked the opening goal by receiving the ball on the half-turn, driving into space in the inside-right channel, and spinning back inside the penalty box before laying it off. Jordan Henderson then strode onto the pass to whip a magnificent first-time finish across goal and past goalkeeper Đorđe Petrović, stunning the visitors with an electrifying early strike.

Chelsea has doubled their lead in remarkable fashion, extending their advantage almost straight from the restart. Pedro Neto unleashed a shot that was parried by Đorđe Petrović on the right side, and the ball was smartly worked out to Morgan Rogers on the left of the penalty area. The England midfielder had time and space to look up and curl a cross-shot toward the far corner, where António Silva inadvertently nodded it past the sprawling dive of Petrović. While it may ultimately go down as an own goal, the initial effort from Rogers was already tracking goal-bound, capping off a lightning-fast start for Xabi Alonso's side at Stamford Bridge.

After a chaotic and explosive start, Chelsea has taken firm control of the match, comfortably managing the tempo despite a few minor openings for Bournemouth. Manager Xabi Alonso will be thoroughly pleased with his team's disciplined response, particularly the invaluable presence of Jordan Henderson in the middle of the park, whose veteran experience has anchored the midfield and helped maintain order as the Blues preserve their comfortable lead.

Chelsea are continuing to look sharp and dangerous in attack, highlighted by a slick move orchestrated by Morgan Rogers. On the halfway line, Rogers executed a sublime flick around the corner to release Chavarria into space down the flank. The wing-back then delivered a cross toward Cole Palmer, and though the initial ball was headed away, it fell straight back into the path of Rogers. He took a couple of touches to steady himself before unleashing a vicious strike that was ultimately blocked well inside the penalty box by a retreating defender.

Emiliano Martínez produced a brilliant double save to keep his side intact, reacting instantly when Adrien Truffert threaded an inch-perfect pass into the path of Rayan, who had cleverly peeled away from Maxence Lacroix. As the Brazilian found himself clean through inside the box and tried to slide his shot into the far corner, Martínez rushed out in a flash to narrow the angle and block the effort. The rebound fell kindly to Ryan Christie, but his follow-up shot lacked power and went straight at the goalkeeper, allowing Martínez to comfortably smother the second attempt and snuff out the danger.

Chelsea head into halftime holding a commanding 2-0 lead over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge after a blistering start that saw Jordan Henderson score his first goal for the club in the opening minute before Morgan Rogers doubled the advantage less than sixty seconds later. Xabi Alonso’s side has controlled the tempo well, heavily aided by Moisés Caicedo's return alongside a superb Henderson in midfield. While Bournemouth has struggled to find their footing and currently stares down the barrel of a sixth consecutive winless start to the campaign, they have shown occasional glimmers of hope through Rayan, who forced Emiliano Martínez into a smart low save. Holding the league's worst defensive record, Alonso will undoubtedly demand a clean sheet in the second half as the Blues look to comfortably secure all three points.

Chelsea have picked up right where they left off in the first half, exploding out of the blocks to score a third goal just after the restart and extend their lead to 3-0 over Bournemouth. Josh Acheampong initiated the move by sliding a wonderful pass down the channel for Pedro Neto on the byline. Antony Silva suffered another nightmare moment as he slipped and misjudged a sliding challenge, allowing Neto to easily cut the ball back to João Pedro at the penalty spot, where he confidently stroked his finish high into the near corner to send Stamford Bridge into raptures.

Bournemouth has unexpectedly pulled a goal back out of nowhere to throw themselves a lifeline and make it 3-1 at Stamford Bridge. Following a corner from Marcus Tavernier, Ryan Christie flicked a near-post header into the six-yard box where it fell directly to Moisés Caicedo. In his attempt to smash the danger clear, Caicedo could only rifle the ball straight into the incoming Evanilson at close range, with the rebound instantly cannoning off the centre-forward and past the goalkeeper into the net.

Emiliano Martínez showcased incredible distribution by launching a pinpoint goal kick directly from his hands onto the toes of Pedro Neto out on the halfway line. Though the winger was ultimately unable to capitalize on the exceptional piece of distribution, it was a breathtaking display of vision and precision from the Argentine goalkeeper.

Chelsea has effectively put the game to bed, restoring their three-goal cushion to make it 4-1 against Bournemouth through João Pedro's second strike of the match. Bournemouth's high defensive line was ruthlessly exposed when Chavarria broke in behind down the left flank. Lifting his head up, the wing-back picked out Pedro perfectly inside the six-yard box, where the forward timed his run to perfection and coolly cushioned the ball home to seal what is surely an unassailable lead.

Jordan Henderson capped off a sensational masterclass with his second goal of the match, sealing a resounding 5-1 victory for Chelsea over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge. When the Blues earned a free kick in a promising position, everyone inside the stadium—and the defensive wall—anticipated Cole Palmer to take the shot, only for Palmer to cleverly dummy over the ball and leave it for Henderson. The veteran midfielder stepped up and unleashed a magnificent, curling strike from 30 yards out that flew into the top corner, further cementing his status as an inspired signing for Xabi Alonso's side and putting the finishing touch on a phenomenal performance.

Chelsea solidified their defensive shape in the closing stages to lock down a crucial three points, capping off a phenomenal performance at both ends of the pitch under Xabi Alonso's tactical guidance. While Dean Henderson is certainly a player capable of turning a match on his day, few could have anticipated the clinical and resolute display delivered by the Blues to secure the win.
