Australia ended Day 1 of the ongoing fourth Ashes Test against England at 299/8 in Manchester as the English pacers reigned supreme. Opting to bowl first, England took wickets at regular intervals and kept an upper hand in the game. However, Marnus Labuschagne (51) and Mitchell Marsh (51) scored half-centuries and gave the visitors some hope of a mini-revival. Apart from them, Travis Head and Steve Smith also scored 48 and 41 runs respectively. For England, Woakes took four wickets while Stuart Broad two wickets. England's Stuart Broad became just the fifth bowler to take 600 Test wickets.
