Remembering Harold ‘Dickie Bird’: Legendary Cricket Umpire Dies At 92

Legendary cricket umpire Harold ‘Dickie’ Bird passed away peacefully at the age of 92, his former clubs confirmed on Tuesday, September 23. Bird was one of the most iconic umpires, admired by fans and players for his character and fairness. Born in Yorkshire in 1933, he had a modest first-class career before a knee injury. Turning to umpiring in 1970, he went on to officiate 66 Test matches and 69 ODIs, including three World Cup finals. He also served as Yorkshire president, and was appointed MBE in 1986 and OBE in 2012.
