Asian Athletics Championships: Shaili Singh Clinches Silver In Women's Long Jump Final

The teenage athlete who won silver at the 2021 World Under-20 Championships produced her best effort in her first attempt and was leading the scoreboards at the halfway mark.

Indian long jumper Shaili Singh continues her sweet run in 2023 as she has bagged the silver medal in the women’s long jump event in the ongoing Asian Athletics Championships. She has done so with an effort of 6.54m, her first major medal in the senior category.

The teenage athlete who won silver at the 2021 World under-20 championships produced her best effort in her first attempt and was leading the scoreboards at the halfway mark. 

The long jumper has hit the 6.49+m target four times this season.

Japan’s Sumire Hata has jumped 6.97m on her final attempt to clinch the numero uno spot, bagging a gold. Chinese counterpart Zhong Jiawei has won the bronze medal after securing a jump of 6.46m.

Previously, Singh notched up 6.49m in the Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship held in Bhuvaneshwar. In April, the 19-year-old jumped 6.76m, the second best behind her mentor Anju Bobby Geroge’s national record of 6.83m. She also jumped a whopping 6.65m in the coveted Seiko Golden Grand Prix held in Japan in May.
