Every urban professional of a certain age needs a Windsor Pub. Located some distance away from the heart of Bangalore’s drinking district, this 45-seater restaurant is a mecca for anyone in search of chilled beer, excellent South Indian non-veg food and good jazz.
Begin with the Masala Squid (Rs 180), served with kachumber and a small salad, which come in handy when the chef is a bit too generous with the tangy, spicy, karipatta-heavy flavourings. The seafood itself is always impeccably fresh—none of that rubbery nonsense from frozen packets. The continental dishes on the menu are well worth trying—the steaks have a cult following—but if it’s a weekend, the main course has to be appams with a choice of curries (crab, prawn, fish, mutton, chicken, veg, Rs 200-300). And oh, did I mention that a beer is included in the price of every main course?
Friendly and non-obsequious service, a comfortable and non-loungy ambience and intense but not necessarily intellectual conversations. Sunday afternoons in Windsor Pub are tailored for thirtysomethings—if they have the patience to queue.
