Too Many On The Job

Dishing out government jobs has been a popular practice with most governments in the state. Not surprisingly, most major scams in the hill state too revolve around jobs. So, this week when the state HC ordered the vigilance department to register cases and probe the ‘jobs on chits’ scam, allegedly conducted during Virbhadra Singh’s previous tenure (1993-97), it was sweet revenge for ex-CM Prem Kumar Dhumal. The matter refers to around 3,000 appointments made allegedly on political considerations bypassing the official procedure. The court’s directive came on a pil filed by K.M. Katwal, an ex-chairman of the HP State Subordinate Services Selection Board. The court has directed that the investigating agency submit its report within six months, which should only lead to more muck emerging.
