The Congress, in poll mode, is frantically doing a damage-control exercise with two of its top leaders, ex-Union ministers Kamal Nath and Vasant Sathe, being hauled up by the Justice Nanavati Commission—probing the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi. The two have been accused of leading a mob at the historic Gurudwara Rakabganj and are among 14 people issued notices, asked to appear on November 10. The gurudwara, where some Sikhs were holed up, was attacked by a violent mob. Two Sikhs were burnt alive in the attack. According to a statement by an eyewitness, the mob initially dispersed within an hour, only to come back with "some Congress leaders, out of which I could recognise Kamal Nath and Vasant Sathe".
