Do you feel let down by Nawaz Sharif? The Pakistan People’s Party (ppp), after all, had only last week announced the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ard), with Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League (pml) as a part of it.

But yes, I am angry. My husband Asif is entitled to medical bail by law, but the military regime has got a stay order. So on the one hand, here’s a man who is denied his legitimate freedom, and on the other hand is Nawaz—who’s put on a plane and sent abroad. Nawaz has a right like everyone else to medical treatment but there should be a due process. This is a favour. There‘s a lot of talk about national interest, that the Sharif family’s property has been attached. I would like the army to go public with the deal. In whose national interest is this? The fact is Nawaz borrowed (Pakistani) Rs 7 crore and he flies out, while ordinary people who owe Rs 1 lakh or less stay in jail.

It is being strongly suggested that the army will offer Zardari and you a similar deal.
