P C Mohanan retired from the Indian Statistical Service in 2015. In his 36 years of service in ISS, he worked in the National Sample Survey Organisation and the Central Statistical Organisation in various capacities. He was also a member of several government committees relating to official statistics. After retirement, he worked as short term consultant in national and international organisations. He was appointed as a Member National Statistical Commission in June 2017 and was the Acting Chairman when he left the Commission in January 2019. He Chaired the Kerala State Statistical Commission from 2022 to March 2026. His has published papers on poverty, employment-unemployment, housing, migration, demographic issues, official data systems etc.
