Everyone in the fashion and entertainment world waits every year for the first Monday in May. Well, why not? That’s when the Met Gala takes place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This year, the 2023 Met Gala celebrates the exhibition “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” with an aim to honour the legacy of Lagerfeld—the late designer, and also to raise funds for The Met’s Costume Institute.
While the exhibition is important, its star-studded red carpet spectacle as the guests walk up the famous Met steps is always a sight to behold. Nonetheless, the Met Gala is known to create the most memorable (and viral) celebrity red carpet looks. The 2023 Met Gala guests were asked to dress “in honour of Karl”, with co-hosts Penélope Cruz, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer, Dua Lipa, and Vogue’s Anna Wintour present at the event.

A$AP Rocky and Rihanna
Rihanna arrived extremely, yet fashionably, late to the Met Gala. As she arrived with A$AP Rocky, she looked stunning in a custom Valentino ensemble with a voluminous hooded cape covered in large, white camellias. A$AP Rocky, on the other hand, wore a long Gucci kilt over a pair of jeans.
JLo, who arrived solo, wore a custom Ralph Lauren gown featuring a cutout on the bodice with a feathery halter neckline connected to the skirt. She completed the look with a black hat with a wispy structural detail.
The rapper's wore a Chenpeng Studio gown, which was a nod to Lagerfeld's many black suits.
Her Marc Jacobs gown featured off-the-shoulder, sparkly sleeves while the bodice and skirt was said to be made of figure-hugging latex.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas
The couple made a stunning appearance at the Met Gala in black-and-white looks from Valentino. While her strapless, black dress had a thigh-high slit, Priyanka completed her look with a textured black cape adorned with an oversize white bow. Nick wore a white button-down and black pants, a nod to Lagerfeld's traditional look.
‘The Last of Us’ actor came to the Met Gala in a Valentino ensemble featuring a red blouse, red trench coat, and black tie that were standard for the Met Gala carpet.
She was a vision to behold in red on the Met Gala carpet as she pulled off a daring Jean Paul Gaultier by Haider Ackermann gown and completed it with a matching coat with light-blue silk fabric.
Gigi Hadid opted for a rock-and-roll chic on the red carpet as she adorned a sheer black gown by Givenchy and diamond jewellery by Smiling Rocks and Lagos.
Kim Kardashian too pulled off a daring Schiaparelli gown that was dripping in pearls, in a tribute to Lagerfeld.
Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh looked stunning in black and white on the Met Gala red carpet. Her trailing gown, which featured an off-the-shoulder, button-up shirt, looked like a deconstructed tuxedo.
More like a modern-day Marie Antoinette in a corset-style, Jenna wore a Thom Browne gown covered in layers of ruffles and pearl-covered chains.
Her custom dress, designed by Jonathan Simkhai, featured an hourglass shape and hand-applied crystals.
Lila Moss arrived in her baby-pink Fendi ensemble, and she paid homage to Lagerfeld.

At the red carpet of Met Gala 2023, Williams — who announced she was pregnant — adorned a black Gucci gown featuring sheer black sleeves and a white tulle mermaid-style skirt.
Donatella Versace looked lovely in a baby pink from head to toe as she walked the Met Gala red carpet.

Halle Bailey wore a shimmering, white Gucci gown fit, which had a halter-style neckline and was partially sheer.
He opted for a navy suit by Dior that featured an asymmetrical hemline, with simple gold broach.
Rami Malek kept it simple as he wore a white vest buttoned over a long-sleeved shirt, black pants, along with leather dress shoes, and an emerald jabot.
Alia Bhatt, who made her Met Gala debut, wore a gown covered in one of Lagerfeld's favourite textures: pearls.
