These colourful kulhiyaa chukiyaa are earthen play-kitchen sets that traces its roots to festivals like Deepawali and Chhath. Each year a Gharonda or gharkunda (toy house made with mud, bricks and wood) would be painted with lime and decorated with colourful papers in the courtyards a few days prior to Deepawali. The gharaunda was incomplete without a chulhiya and chukiyas. We'd stuff the earthen pretend utensils and kitchenware with lava (popcorns) and batashas. This was a symbolism of a prosperous household.
