The Uttarakhand Cabinet has approved several important proposals concerning healthcare, sports, judicial administration and infrastructure development.
At a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Cabinet approved an increase in the monthly stipend paid to MBBS interns, the allocation of government posts for medal-winning sportspersons and revised fees for government lawyers.
It also cleared proposals related to the Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeway and the allotment of land for an Employees’ State Insurance hospital in Haridwar. The Cabinet further approved the presentation of the state electricity regulator’s annual report and accounts in the Assembly.

Electricity Regulator’s Annual Report to Be Tabled in Assembly
The Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission’s annual report for 2024-25 will be presented during the next session of the state Assembly. The Cabinet approved the proposal to place the report before the House under Section 105 of the Electricity Act, 2003.
Commission’s Annual Accounts Cleared for Presentation
The Cabinet also approved the presentation of the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission’s annual statement of accounts for 2024-25 in the Assembly. The accounts will be placed before the House under Section 104(4) of the Electricity Act.
New Post in Prison Administration
The service rules for Group A and Group B posts in the Prison Administration and Correctional Services Department will be amended.
Under the revised rules, a new post of Additional Inspector General of Prisons will be created for the correctional wing. The post will become part of the department’s regular cadre.
Revised Fee for Government Lawyers
The Cabinet approved new remuneration rates for lawyers representing the Uttarakhand government in courts.
The revised rates will apply to government lawyers appearing in the Supreme Court, the Uttarakhand High Court in Nainital and subordinate courts across the state.
Licensing Process for Weights and Measures to Be Simplified
The Uttarakhand Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2012, will be amended, and the revised 2026 rules will be introduced.
The government said the changes would simplify the licensing process concerning weights and measures and make related business regulations easier to follow.
MBBS Intern Stipend Raised to ₹25,000
The Cabinet approved an increase in the monthly stipend paid to MBBS students completing internships at government medical colleges. The interns currently receive ₹17,000 a month. This amount will now be raised to at least ₹25,000.
Uttarakhand has five government medical colleges, located in Srinagar, Haldwani, Dehradun, Haridwar and Almora.
33 Posts to Be Restructured for Sportspersons
The Cabinet approved the restructuring of posts in the Secondary Education Department to provide government employment opportunities to sportspersons who have performed well in national and international competitions.
Of the department’s 1,898 Pay Level 7 posts of Assistant Teacher, Physical Education, 33 will be converted into Pay Level 6 posts in the designated category.
Cabinet Clears 243 Government Posts for Medal Winners
Under the Uttarakhand Khel Niti 2021, sportspersons who win medals at national and international competitions are eligible for out-of-turn appointments in government service.
The Cabinet approved the allocation of 243 posts across different departments for the appointment of eligible sportspersons.
These posts will be available in departments including Sports and Youth Welfare, Home, Transport, Education and Forest.
Land Approved for Mussoorie Ropeway Facilities
The Cabinet cleared a land-related proposal for the upper terminal and parking facilities of the planned ropeway from Purukul village in Dehradun to Library Chowk in Mussoorie.
Approval has been granted to lease 972 square metres of land from the property purchased by the Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam for parking in Mussoorie.
15 Acres Approved for ESI Hospital in Haridwar
The Cabinet approved the allotment of 15 acres of land in Haridwar for the construction of an Employees’ State Insurance hospital. The identified land will be used to develop the proposed hospital.
The decisions are expected to benefit different sections of society. MBBS interns will receive a higher stipend, while medal-winning sportspersons will gain access to new employment opportunities in government departments.
The Cabinet also approved measures to revise the remuneration of government lawyers, strengthen the administrative structure of the Prison Department and advance major infrastructure and healthcare projects.
