There is no denying that Uttar Pradesh is going through a grand transformation. This phase is not just limited to infrastructure, law & order, education and economy but has also been witnessed in the cultural sphere. Powered by the push for modern infrastructure, the state is reviving its sacred heritage by combining age-old traditions with world-class experiences for millions of pilgrims and tourists who visit the state.

The Vision of 'Utsav Pradesh'

Under the visionary guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state is building a cultural and religious ecosystem that revolves around the idea of 'Utsav Pradesh'. The idea is in sync with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s broader developmental goals. ‘Utsav Pradesh’ aims to do much more than just revive festivals and traditions. It aims to revive Uttar Pradesh’s connection with its deep-rooted cultural identity and restore pride in its spiritual heritage, thereby unlocking huge avenues for tourism and local growth.

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi famously said, "UP prospers when Kashi prospers, and the country prospers when UP prospers," he highlighted this vision and gave his blessings for the same.

Celebrating Deepotsav & Rangotsav

Uttar Pradesh’s cultural transformation has been showcased with big events which are redefining the state's global festival appeal:

  • Rangotsav in Braj: In the Braj region of Uttar Pradesh, around the holy city of Mathura and Vrindavan, colours of devotion and festivities come alive during the months of February and March. Holi is the pinnacle of this tradition, which is a vibrant, living heritage. From Barsana and Nandgaon’s Lathmar Holi to Phoolon ki Holi in Vrindavan, Rangotsav drew over 44 lakh visitors in 2026 alone.

  • Deepotsav in Ayodhya: Ayodhya’s world-record-shattering Deepotsav represents a magnificent story of scale. Deepotsav grew from lighting 1.71 lakh diyas in 2017 to setting a world record in 2025 by illuminating Ram Ki Paidi with a whopping 26,17,215 diyas.

  • Dev Deepawali in Kashi: Famous ghats of Varanasi transform into a stunning and shining visual spectacle. In 2025, 25 lakh diyas illuminated the historic riverfronts of the Ganga.

Modern Infrastructure in Mathura, Ayodhya, and Kashi

As pilgrim centres of Uttar Pradesh witness a massive influx of devotees, the state is investing heavily in spiritual-religious corridors and modern urban infrastructure.

  • Mathura & Braj Region Upgrades: The state’s Braj region is going through a big transformation as comprehensive development projects are taking shape. Parikrama paths, river ghats, parking facilities, and entry gates are getting upgraded to higher standards. The Barsana–Govardhan–Radhakund corridor and the proposed Shri Banke Bihari corridor are the key structural initiatives that are designed to ensure safer and easier access for pilgrims.

  • Ayodhya's Sacred Transformation: Under 9 years of transformative leadership and since the inauguration of Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, Ayodhya has emerged as a leading global pilgrimage destination. As the epicentre of the Ramayana Circuit, the city’s cultural landscape brings together faith and living traditions, attracting millions to sacred sites like Ram Ki Paidi.

  • The New Kashi Vishwanath Dham: One of India’s seven holy cities, Kashi stands where ancient civilisation meets modern infrastructure. The Kashi Vishwanath Dham precinct expanded from 3,000 sq. ft. to nearly 5 lakh sq. ft., integrating over 40 rediscovered ancient temples. Riverfronts like Namo Ghat have been developed and beautified. To improve mobility in Kashi, India’s first urban ropeway connecting Cantt and Rathyatra entered trial operations in 2025 under a Rs 644-crore project.
