Sunny Beaches, an Indian beer brand from Woodpecker Distilleries and Breweries, a subsidiary of SOM Group of Companies, has reported early traction in Karnataka’s competitive beer market following its recent launch. The development reflects evolving dynamics within the state’s alcoholic beverage sector, which has traditionally been dominated by established brands with extensive distribution networks and long-standing consumer recall.

According to information shared by the company, Sunny Beaches has achieved an estimated market presence of over 3% within a few months of its introduction. The company further reports sales of more than 12 lakh bottles in February 2026. These figures are based on internal data and estimates and have not been independently verified.

The brand has expanded its availability across multiple urban centres in Karnataka, including Bengaluru, Mangalore, Mysuru, and Belagavi. This expansion into key markets is indicative of an effort to establish wider accessibility and visibility in a competitive environment where distribution plays a critical role in market penetration.

Company representatives attribute part of the initial uptake to pricing strategy and product positioning. While specific price points vary by format, the company indicates that its offerings are positioned to balance affordability with perceived product quality. Such positioning is intended to appeal to a broad base of consumers within the category.

Feedback cited by the company suggests that retail off-take and repeat purchases have contributed to early momentum. Trade interactions and outlet-level responses, as per the company, indicate consistent movement of the product across select locations. However, these observations are based on internal assessments and should be viewed in that context.

One of the product features highlighted by the company is a “Ready-to-Serve Chill Indicator.” This feature uses thermochromic ink technology to visually indicate when the beverage has reached a suggested serving temperature of 0–5°C. The company states that this addition is aimed at enhancing product usability and serving awareness, particularly in settings where temperature plays a role in product preference.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Diwakaran Suryanarayana, Chief Operating Officer of SOM Group of Companies, noted that the product was developed with a focus on formulation, balance, and consistency. He added that early responses from different markets in Karnataka have been encouraging, reflecting alignment with consumer expectations, as per internal company feedback.

At present, the brand is available in approximately 8,000 outlets across the state, including bars, retail outlets, and social venues. The company has indicated that it plans to expand its distribution footprint further in the coming months, particularly during peak consumption periods.

Industry observers point to a broader shift in consumer preferences, with increasing interest in domestically produced beverages among young adult consumers of legal drinking age. Factors such as product experience, branding, and perceived value are becoming more relevant in influencing purchase decisions within this segment.

In addition to its premium lager offering, the company has introduced Sunny Beaches Strong Premium Beer. This variant is intended to cater to the strong beer segment, which accounts for a significant share of overall beer consumption in Karnataka. The introduction of this variant reflects an effort to address a wider range of consumer preferences within the market.

The company reiterates that its products are intended for consumption only by individuals of legal drinking age and promotes responsible consumption.
