Investors awaited the Fed report Wednesday for signs of the central bank's level of concern about inflation and when it might start rolling back easy credit and another economic stimulus.
In early transactions, the 30-share BSE index was up 155.51 points, or 0.29 percent, at 53,007.78, while the broader NSE Nifty was up 48.15 points, or 0.30 percent, at 15,872.60.
The S&P 500 index climbed 1 per cent to 4,411.79, while the Dow rose 0.7 per cent to 35,061.55 and the Nasdaq composite gained 1 per cent to 14,836.99
The 30-share BSE index recovered some of its losses in early dealings, trading 54.98 points, or 0.10 percent, lower at 52,920.82, while the broader NSE Nifty dipped 11.55 points, or 0.07 percent, to 15,844.50.
Reliance Industries Ltd reported a 7% dip in June quarter net profit on Friday, while ICICI Bank reported a 52 percent increase in June quarter net profit on Saturday.
The 30-share BSE index fell 141.67 points, or 0.27 percent, to 52,695.54 in early transactions, after starting almost 150 points higher, while the broader NSE Nifty fell 42.05 points, or 0.27 percent, to 15,782.
