Vitantonio Liuzzi has praised McLaren's progress in recent years and believes they fully deserve their current dominance in Formula One.
McLaren have been the team to beat in 2025, as they currently hold a 238-point lead over Ferrari at the top of the constructors' standings.
They are looking to defend the title they won last year, having ended Red Bull's run of dominance by ending their 26-year wait for the constructors' title – the longest gap between championships in F1 history.
They are also dominating the drivers' standings this year, with Oscar Piastri currently leading the way on 234 points, eight more than Lando Norris in second. Max Verstappen is third on 165.
Norris had challenged Verstappen for the title last season, though he ended up finishing 63 points behind the Dutchman.
This year, the Brit is set to fight it out with Piastri, with both drivers earning 10 podium finishes so far, while the Australian has won five grands prix to Norris' four.
After a collision between the pair at the Canadian Grand Prix last month that was caused by Norris, he has since won the last two races, and it looks like the title fight could go down to the wire.
And Liuzzi, who competed in F1 for seven years, believes it will be either Norris or Piastri who will claim the title.
"I believe McLaren deserve all the results they are having," he told Stats Perform.
"They made incredible teamwork over the last one year and a half. They took the team from being among the bottom five on the grid to fighting for the championship.
"They are producing great performances nobody was expecting, other than the people that were aware of the team's project. Huge credit to Andrea Stella and the whole team. It is never about a single person.
"They also have good drivers who are a good pairing. They are both fast and young.
"They still make some mistakes that could be costly for the championship, as it happened already to Norris last year.
"They have such a superior car that the title contention is within the McLaren team. If Red Bull had a more competitive and consistent car, it would be difficult to beat Max Verstappen."
