Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, a drone strike occurred near the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday, just hours before the scheduled Pakistan Super League 2025 Match 27 between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has cancelled today’s PSL match and is reportedly planning to change the venue of all remaining fixtures to Karachi.
Under Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam attack, India carried out drone strikes across several cities in Pakistani, including Rawalpindi, Lahore, and areas near Karachi. According to reports, one of the drones hit near the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, leading to the postponement of the PSL 2025 match scheduled at the venue.
According to the Indian Armed Forces, the Pakistan military launched several drone attacks in Jammu and Punjab over night.
Given this, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is also adjusting its plans. BCCI is relocating IPL matches scheduled in Dharamshala due to security concerns.
However, today’s IPL clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals will proceed as planned at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium.
Security was on high alert at Eden Gardens on Wednesday during the IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, after the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) received a bomb threat via email.
The tensions following India’s military strikes on terror camps in Pakistan have caused several England players in the PSL to consider returning home.
While the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Professional Cricketers’ Association held emergency discussions, no official directive has been issued.
The Seven English players, currently a part of the tournament, including James Vince, Sam Billings, and Tom Curran now faces uncertainty before the final stage of PSL approaches.
