We bumped into an interesting elderly Englishman, who turned out to be the owner of not one, but two Michelin-starred restaurants in London. Naturally, the subject soon turned to food. He and his wife had just returned from Goa and we asked which their favourite restaurants there were. He mentioned the expected names—Corinne’s, Souza Lobo, etc—and then said he’d just discovered a new joint whose name he’d forgotten, where he’d had an excellent lobster meal. Coincidentally, it turned out to be Travelbar, a place that we ourselves had discovered on our last visit. Run by the charming Angie Lobo, it’s probably the only restaurant in the world with an attached travel agency (hence the name). It’s a small, alfresco place that serves great Mediterranean-fusion food. We sat in the courtyard under coconut and cashew trees and had a wonderful meal of tempura prawns, Greek salad, seared filet of fish with asparagus in a lemon-caper sauce, and chicken in an orange-and-mustard sauce. All very good, and very well presented. But don’t take our word for it; ask our English restauranteur friend. His opinion has four Michelin stars behind it.
