Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has condemned Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray’s “taint” jibe at Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.

Gadkari while condemning Thackeray’s remarks said Thackeray can discuss the development works done by the BJP "when we are in power and when they (MVA) were in power".

"But levelling personal allegations at such a low level does not suit the political culture of Maharashtra," he said.

During his address to BJP workers in Nagpur, the home turf of Fadnavis, Thackeray had said the BJP leader was a "taint" on Nagpur as he had aligned with the NCP despite asserting he would never do so.

Playing an old audio clip of Fadnavis stating that he would never join hands with the NCP, Thackeray had said the BJP leader's "no means yes".

Thackeray's  posters were torn by workers of the BJYM (Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha).

The BJYM workers raised slogans against Mr Thackeray and tore up his posters near the Nagpur airport.

A local BJP leader said they will hold demonstrations on Tuesday morning in the city against the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader.

Earlier, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar had joined the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government as Deputy Chief Minister.

Besides Ajit Pawar, a number of NCP leaders, including Chhagan Bhujbal, also joined and took oath as ministers.

Some of the other NCP leaders who took oaths as ministers in Maharashtra government include Dilip Walse Patil, Hasan Mushrif, Dhananjay Munde, Aditi Tatkare, and Aatram Dharamraobaba Bhagwantrao.

Prior to the split in NCP, Ajit Pawar sat in the Opposition as the Leader of the Opposition.

He is the nephew of NCP President Sharad Pawar, who was earlier key in stiching the NCP-Congress-Shiv Sena coalition under the banner of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) that ran Maharashtra during 2019-22 until Shinde's rebellion split Sena and toppled the coalition.
