A Bitter Pill
The NATO approved last week an agreement accepting Russia into the alliance. The new NATO-Russian council will cooperate, among other things, on issues of terrorism and arms control. But not everybody’s happy at Vladimir Putin’s decision. Says the former head of the department of International Military Cooperation, Leonid Ivashov: "This is just a way to sugar the pill of NATO expansion into Eastern Europe and former Soviet Baltic republics later this year."
