Pakistan's interior minister Lt General Moinuddin Haider is probably the most audacious member of President Pervez Musharraf's cabinet. Responsible for the admittedly tough task of countering terrorism and fundamentalism, he talked to Mohammad Shehzad on Kashmir and jehad. Excerpts
One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist. Do you agree?
Would you call Masood Azhar a terrorist or a freedom fighter?
Has Pakistan conveyed to the US and others the difference between 'terrorism' and self-defence, self-determination and freedom-fighting?
But the West is not listening to us.
I have visited the offices of Al-Badr Mujahideen and Hizbul Mujahideen in Rawalpindi. Al-Badr says jehad is very much on in Kashmir and that it is still recruiting mujahideen.
Why are the offices still there then?
An Indian journalist said that the US wants India and Pakistan to keep making love but not produce children. He said this in the context of Washington's oft-repeated statement that India and Pakistan should talk on all issues including Kashmir.
Gen Musharraf has repeatedly told the West that he has stopped cross-border terrorism. Why is it that even then everyone is twisting our arm to take concrete steps?
Is Kashmir amenable to any solution?
Why are journalists visiting the Indian High Commission in Islamabad interrogated as if they are traitors? The Indian government does not mind such interaction.
I can't visit the house of an Indian journalist if he invites me.
