A woman from Tennessee, aged 58, has achieved the remarkable distinction of holding the record for the world's lengthiest competitive mullet among females.
Hailing from Knoxville, Tami Manis proudly displays a cascading mullet measuring an impressive 5 feet 8 inches, which is nearly as tall as the average man earning her a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Ms. Manis, who works as a public health nurse, has sported her mullet hairstyle since the 1980s, having been inspired by a music video from the American rock band Til Tuesday. Remarkably, she hasn't trimmed her hair for an astonishing 33 years.
Ms. Manis revealed that her fascination with mullets started over four decades ago when she watched the music video for the song "Voices Carry."
In November 1989, she made the decision to part with her mullet, but almost immediately regretted it. Consequently, she embarked on a journey to regrow it in February of the following year, and she has refrained from trimming it ever since.
A mullet is often colloquially described as "business in the front and a party in the back" due to its shorter front, top, and side hair, with a longer length at the back.
During the 1980s and early 1990s, it became the prevailing fashion trend, embraced by celebrities such as Billy Ray Cyrus, Mario Lopez, and Patrick Swayze.
Ms. Manis often surprises people when they suddenly realize the remarkable length of her hair as she turns around. When asked about the secret behind her impressive hair length, Ms. Manis attributes it to her favorable genetic inheritance.
However, maintaining such an exceptionally long mullet can be quite challenging. Ms. Manis' hair surpasses her own height in length, necessitating frequent braiding to keep it manageable.
Prior to achieving her World Record status, Ms. Manis participated in the 2022 US Mullet Championships, securing the second-place position.
