Unfortunate start for Liverpool as Jeremie Frimpong has suffered an injury. He signaled towards the bench for a substitution and upon consideration, Arne Slot acknowledged it. Wataru Endo replaces Frimpong in the playing XI, just 4 minutes into the game.
Liverpool is overpowering Qarabag very early into the game and they have made the scoreline 2-0 in absolutely no time. Alexis Mac Allister is the first one to score. Nails a header to give Liverpool the lead. Florian Ruiz tops it up as he receives a pass on the edge of the penalty area from Hugo Ekitike, then produced a nice strike into the bottom left corner.
Despite taking an early lead and doubling it up, Liverpool are not slowing down the pressure they have created. Andrew Robertson puts in an hopeful cross but fails to find a teammate inside the box. Earlier, Cody Gakpo drive from the edge of the box got saved.
Liverpool imposed themselves within 15 minutes of the game and since then they have maintained their upper hand. Qarabag have made their attempts in goal as well with Abdellah Zoubir, Kevin Medina, Jonathan Montiel making their own moves. Elvin Cafarquliyev came very close at one point, but Alisson made a brilliant save. Qarabag will need a big performance in the second half to turn things around.
What a start to the second half by Liverpool. Mohamed Salah extends their lead further as he nails a screamer into the top left corner. Salah looked sharp since the start of the second half and he converted his good touch soon.
Liverpool are continuing to extend their lead and Qarabag are being thrown out of the game here. It is Hugo Ekitike now who scores with a solo effort. He sends the ball low into the middle of the goal and beats goalkeeper Mateusz Kochalski. Arne Slot's side is dominating now.
Another goal. 5-0 in favour of Liverpool now and it is getting close to an absolute demolition here. Alexis Mac Allister it is once again. Uses a rebound to his advantage and fires it low into the middle of the goal. The goal comes minutes after Ekitike scored. Liverpool are on top here.
A goalless spell of 18 minutes and that is a relief for Qarabag, given how the second half started for them. Mohammad Salah keeps troubling them, forcing one of the defenders to deal with the threat. Virgil van Dijk also got his header from one of the corners get saved by the goalkeeper. Shot attempts are now 10-1 in favour of Liverpool.
Just in the dying minutes of the game, Liverpool score again. This should be the final nail in the coffin of Qarabag. Virgil van Dijk provides Federico Chiesa a clean pass and the later does no mistake in the finish. Chiesa came in place of Gakpo and makes his impact felt.
Full time whistle arrives from the referee and Liverpool seal a dominant victory. They have provided absolutely no chance to Qarabag and in both halfs they have imposed themselves in the first 15 minutes, ensuring a victory. With this win, they are not confirmed to feature in the top-eight and they seal a spot in the UEFA Champions League 2025-26 round of 16. Clinical performance from Arne Slot's side.
