Los Angeles FC (LAFC) and Esperance Sportive de Tunis will both be looking for their first points in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 as they clash in a Group D fixture at Geodis Park in Nashville on 20 June. This is the first-ever meeting between an American and a Tunisian side, and both teams will aim to overcome their opening-round defeats.
LAFC entered the tournament through a stroke of luck after Club Leon were disqualified due to FIFA’s multi-club ownership regulations. As a result, Steve Cherundolo’s men edged Club America in a playoff to secure their debut appearance in the competition.
However, the MLS side had a tough opening match against Chelsea, losing 2-0 despite showing flashes of brilliance. The defeat brought an end to a ten-match unbeaten run, and LAFC are now under pressure to qualify from a tight group.
ES Tunis had a similarly tough start to their group-stage campaign, falling 2-0 to Flamengo. The Tunisian side were largely outplayed by the Brazilian giants, despite the attacking threat of Youcef Belaili.
Esperance’s defeat ended their eleven-match unbeaten streak across all competitions, during which they had netted 27 goals and kept nine clean sheets. However, Maher Kanzari’s side failed to do either against Flamengo, having just one shot on target.
ES Tunis have just one win in seven matches in the Club World Cup, and face an uphill battle to secure their second win.
