Trivendra Singh Rawat resigned as chief minister of Uttarakhand, the BJP-ruled hill state that goes to the polls early next year. The BJP ignores any call from satraps against a CM, but it took into account growing dissent against Rawat, probably fearing that his ­continuation may cost the party the state like the image of Raghubar Das led to defeat in Jharkhand in 2020.

A multi-agency probe has started after an explosive-laden SUV was found near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s Mumbai home. The SUV belonged to Thane-based automobile spare parts dealer Mansukh Hiran, who had reported that his car was stolen. Hiran’s body was found in a creek on March 5, deepening the mystery.

The government has made front ­airbags mandatory in vehicles ­manufactured on and after April 1, 2021. For existing models, airbags have to be fitted before August 31 for the ­passenger in the front seat as well as the driver. The step was taken to ensure passenger safety.
