A total of 33 rice mills have been blacklisted in Maharashtra's Gonda district. According to officials, the announcement ensued after the rice supplied by these mills was found to be of substandard quality, unfit for human consumption. On August 4, Gondia Collector Chinmay Gotmare effectuated the ban on these mills for the next three years.

An official of the Food Corporation of India added, that the rice from these mills was supplied to Beed, Nandurbar, Latur and other districts under the public distribution system until last year, when an inspection by an FCI team revealed the inferior quality of the supply. Gotmare took over the matter after the team submitted its report to the collector, who has now instructed the mills to provide good quality rice in the next six weeks or be ready to face legal action.
