  • The entire country is being treated as one constituency.

  • 7,200 candidates in the fray for the national assembly.

  • Ballot paper will list names of parties and alliances and not their candidates.

  • Each party has submitted a national list of candidates.

  • Each party gets the same proportion of seats in the assembly as it gets for its list in the popular vote.

  • If a party wins 30 seats, the first 30 candidates from its list will go to the Assembly.

  • Every third name on the list has to be a woman's.

  • Altogether, 111 political parties, coalitions and independent candidates have submitted their respective national lists.

  • Baathist leaders and militant groups are not allowed to contest.
