Road To Democracy

The entire country is being treated as one constituency.
7,200 candidates in the fray for the national assembly.
Ballot paper will list names of parties and alliances and not their candidates.
Each party has submitted a national list of candidates.
Each party gets the same proportion of seats in the assembly as it gets for its list in the popular vote.
If a party wins 30 seats, the first 30 candidates from its list will go to the Assembly.
Every third name on the list has to be a woman's.
Altogether, 111 political parties, coalitions and independent candidates have submitted their respective national lists.
Baathist leaders and militant groups are not allowed to contest.
