- The entire country is being treated as one constituency.
- 7,200 candidates in the fray for the national assembly.
- Ballot paper will list names of parties and alliances and not their candidates.
- Each party has submitted a national list of candidates.
- Each party gets the same proportion of seats in the assembly as it gets for its list in the popular vote.
- If a party wins 30 seats, the first 30 candidates from its list will go to the Assembly.
- Every third name on the list has to be a woman's.
- Altogether, 111 political parties, coalitions and independent candidates have submitted their respective national lists.
- Baathist leaders and militant groups are not allowed to contest.
