The Lethal Allied Weaponry
Satellite-Guided Bombs
A key component of air attacks is "joint direct attack munitions" or JDAMs. These satellite-guided smart bombs can deliver a conventional1,000-2,000-lb of explosives. The bomb can be released as far as 15 miles from the target. It is programmed with the coordinates of the target and uses the GPS to steer itself in.
The US ABRAMS Tank
The US MBT is already leading the ground attack. Fitted with 1,500-hp engine.
The US War Plan
1. AIR STRIKES: Cruise missiles from the US ships in the Mediterranean and in the Gulf target air defence around Basra, Baghdad and Kirkuk. Waves of fighter-bombers from Incirlik, Diego Garcia and other carriers launch strikes.
2. BASE BUILDING: Troops move deeper into the country—facilities will be established in the north, west and south. Troops move to Basra to secure oilfields.
3. ATTACK TIKRIT, BAGHDAD: Troops push down from the north to attack power base of Tikrit. Use mobile bridges to cross Tigris and Euphrates from southto reach Baghdad.
4. CAPTURE BAGHDAD: Have control over Baghdad. Saddam might release chemical or biological weapons. His regime could collapse from within with officers mounting a coup.
