Gujarat Titans rode an unbeaten 106-run partnership between Hardik Pandya and David Miller to rout Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets. Highlights of GT vs RR.
A new generation of historians are bringing the subject out of the shadow of Marx and Nehru, fulfilling its role of restoring civilisational pride among Indians.
The BJP, with its insistence on the purity of Hindu Rashtra, would sadly reduce the soaring generosity of their founding vision to the petty bigotry of majoritarian chauvinism.
Historiography under previous governments can, and should, be contested. But history that’s being rewritten under the present government is not merely to eulogise some leaders, but also, and more worryingly, to condemn several chapters of the past.
Gujarat Titans and last-over thrillers continue to go hand in hand as the side inched past Rajasthan Royals in a nail-biting Qualifier 1 on Tuesday night to enter the final of IPL 2022. When GT needed 16 off the final over, it seemed like anyone's game but David Miller (68 not out off 36) weaved his magic to put another close contest in the bag of the IPL newbies. He hit Prasidh Krishna for three back-to-back sixes to help Gujarat cruise into the final. Riding on Jos Buttler's 89 and Sanju Samson's 47 off 26, RR had posted 188/6 in 20 overs. In return, they reduced GT to 85/3 in 9.3 overs and kept it tight until the second-last over after which Miller went berserk and killed the entertaining contest in just three balls. Meanwhile, his partner Hardik Pandya (40 not out off 27) also played a crucial role in the victory as the player stitched an unbeaten 106-run partnership with him for the fourth wicket. “I felt extremely backed from the outset. My personal game - I'm enjoying my role, I've been playing for many years now. Understanding my game a lot better. In high-pressure situations you tend to go away from your gameplan but I feel like I'm trying to keep everything together close to the gameplan… It was a new team so there are a few butterflies here and there. From the first win, everything sort of aligned. You have to control what you can, can't think too much ahead. Concentrate on your breathing, and if it's in your area, you have to capitalise.”
Oh, this David Miller is an absolute beauty. Gujarat Titans needed 16 runs off the last over and it seemed like anyone's game but Miller put all the predictions to rest in a span of just three balls. Three consecutive SIXES were his response to the last-over thriller which was beautifully poised before the start of the final over. Rajasthan Royals are sad as they had a hope in this game. But then Miller happened and dented their dreams of entering the final. However, they will be getting a second chance. But for tonight, they are Gujarat Titans who will rejoice the moment. Maiden season and a entry to final in that. It's a start to boast!
David Miller is making a joke of this last-over thriller. He has smashed two SIXES on the first two balls of Prasidh Krishna. GT need 4 in 4 or say they are just one hit away.... Do we have a twist in this game, or Miller will seal it easily?
18.5 - A single on the leg side and David Miller races to his fifty off just 35 balls.
A dot ball to end the over and Obed McCoy has done his job. He has saved 16 runs to defend in the last over and this game still hangs in balance.
GT 173/3 (19)
17.5 - SIX! Yuzvendra Chahal had so far managed to keep both the batters silent but not this time as David Miller walked across and hit it over long-on for a SIX.
11 runs came off it. GT need 23 in 12.
GT 166/3 (18)
Nine runs came off Obed McCoy's third over. GT need 34 more in 18 balls. This match is getting down to the wire. Yuzvendra Chahal comes up to bowl the 18th over. Wicket or boundary? Let's see who dominates whom.
GT 155/3 (17)
A 7-run over from Trent Boult and that keeps Rajasthan Royals alive in this game. Gujarat Titans still hold an edge, but you just need one to two wickets or some dot balls to chance the scenario of a T20 game. It's so unpredictable.
GT 146/3 (16)
Even Yuzvendra Chahal went for runs. He offered one in the slot to David Miller and the South African southpaw dispatched it straight over the bowler's head for a SIX. GT need 50 in 30 balls. With noticeable dew and the form of Hardik Pandya and Miller, this is their game.
GT 139/3 (15)
14 runs came off Ravichandran Ashwin's fourth over. This is the over Gujarat Titans were searching. Meanwhile, it was matured batting from the batting duo of Hardik Pandya and David Miller in the over. They are not trying to overhit the ball and are playing easy shots for boundaries.
GT 129/3 (14)
That's an economical over from Ravichandran Ashwin. None of David Miller or Hardik Pandya could take him on in the over. GT need 80 more in 48 balls.
GT 109/3 (12)
Hardik Pandya is looking extremely good at the middle. He is getting his shots from the middle of the bat and that's the reason his strike rate currently is 222. Gujarat Titans need him and David Miller to stay there for a bit longer as anything under 10 per over won't be a big ask.
GT 104/3 (11)
A short ball from Obed McCoy and Matthew Wade has hit it into the hands of Jos Buttler at deep mid-wicket. Buttler showed good athleticism to take the catch near the boundary ropes. Wade falls on 35 off 30 and this match now gets tilted towards Rajasthan Royals.
GT 85/3 (9.3)
Only seven runs came off Yuzvendra Chahal's second over despite Matthew Wade hitting a FOUR on the last ball. GT need 110 more in 66. Required run rate is exactly 10 per over. The match still hangs in balance and any team can win this from here.
GT 79/2 (9)
The pressure created by Yuzvendra Chahal in the previous over and Ravichandran Ashwin in the ongoing over has got better of Shubman Gill (35 off 21). The GT opener tapped the ball in front of deep mid-wicket as asked Matthew Wade to run a double but Wade took a couple of strides on his second run and decided not to take it. By then, Gill was at the middle of the pitch with no scope of safe return. Poor running!
GT 72/2 (7.4)
Yuzvendra Chahal starts with a 4-run over. This will give some relief to Rajasthan Royals, who failed to stop the run flow of Gujarat Titans in the powerplay.
GT 68/1 (7)
Not a good welcome for Ravichandran Ashwin as Shubman Gill toyed with him in the spinner's first over of the game. He hit a SIX and two consecutive FOURS before handing the strike to Matthew Wade. Gujarat Titans have got a solid start in chase of 189 and the dew has also arrived on the ground. Nothing is going Rajasthan Royals' way at the moment.
GT 64/1 (6)
16 runs came off Trent Boult's third over. Be it through a good shot or through edge of the bat, Gujarat Titans are getting the much-needed boundaries. Rajasthan Royals can call themselves a bit unlucky though!
GT 47/1 (5)
Only two runs came off Prasidh Krishna's second over. He had conceded 14 in his first but made a good comeback this time. He bowled into the body of Shubman Gill and cramped him for room. Gill got a single only after playing five dot balls in the over.
GT 31/1 (4)
While the first FOUR came off a edge from the bat of Matthew Wade that went to the third man boundary, the second one came at deep mid-wicket, however, that too was a mishit but had enough legs to run for a FOUR.
GT 29/1 (3)
1.5 - A short ball from Prasidh Krishna has hit the elbow of Matthew Wade. Physio checks him... The game is ready for resumption.
A FOUR comes on the last ball and GT get 14 runs off it. GT 18/1 (2)
0.2 - What a start this is for Rajasthan Royals and Trent Boult. The southpaw has got the wicket of Wriddhiman Saha, who played a key role in providing quick starts to Gujarat Titans in the season so far.
Four runs came off the over. GT 4/1 (1)
Wriddhiman Saha takes the strike, he will face Trent Boult. Shubman Gill is at the other end. Here we go!
Rajasthan Royals have eventually posted a good total, courtesy Jos Buttler's 89 that came off 56 balls. The innings didn't come as good as the Orange Cap holder would have liked, but it has come at a crucial time for RR as a win here can take them to the IPL 2022 final. However, they can't take Gujarat Titans lightly, who have stunned their opponents many a time this season. Wriddhiman Saha will be eager to provide another good start to GT while Shubman Gill will also be raring to score big. GT's chase starts in a while...
19.6 - Jos Buttler has been run out on the last ball. He tried to take a couple and failed to get to the other end in time. Okay wait! He is out but it's a no-ball. This means we have one more ball remaining in the innings.
19.6 - Another wicket! It's a wide but Riyan Parag is run out.
A rare of the rarest sight in T20 cricket. Jos Buttler stayed at the crease for so long but got his first SIX of the innings on the last ball of the 19th over. He is 80 not out off 52.
RR 172/4 (19)
18.3 - Shimron Hetmyer got a ball in his zone but he only managed to hit it into the hands of long-on fielder. He departs on 4 off 7 balls. Mohammed Shami claims the wicket.
Jos Buttler is not getting his shots from the middle of the bat but more importantly for Rajasthan Royals the runs keep flowing for them. 14 runs came off Alzarri Joseph's second over as Buttler hit three FOURS in it.
RR 159/3 (18)
16.4 - FOUR and Jos Buttler races to his fifty in 42 balls. He is riding his luck tonight. It was a mishit and the fielder at short third man let it slip from him to run for a boundary.
18 runs came off the third over of Yash Dayal. Stats would tell you a wrong story as he bowled really well in the over, but poor fielding from Gujarat made the over costly.
RR 145/3 (17)
Rashid Khan's stature has gone so high that it is now working against him. The bowler, who used to get many wickets earlier, now ends without a single wicket many a time and the reason is simple that batsmen don't try to hit him or get runs off his ball. They all just focus on negating him by not losing their wicket.
RR 127/3 (16)
Devdutt Padikkal is out! It was a slower ball bowled outside off from Hardik Pandya and Padikkal chopped it on his stumps. He departs after playing a crucial cameo of 28 off 20 balls.
RR 116/3 (14.1)
13.3 - SIX! It was in the slot from R Sai Kishore and Devdutt Padikkal didn't shy away from hitting it over deep mid-wicket for a SIX.
The attacking intent reaped fruits for Padikkal as he got two more boundaries in the over. 18 runs came off it.
RR 116/2 (14)
Hardik Pandya had trapped Jos Buttler on the third ball of his first over, but a lazy attempt from Mohammed Shami saw the ball falling in front of him. Had Shami taken the dive or given more energy to it, he could have taken the catch. Buttler is not looking at his usual form right now, but with a quality batsman like him, you never know.
RR 98/2 (13)
Despite a wicket falling just now, Devdutt Padikkal decided to take on R Sai Kishore. He hit him for SIX on slog-sweep to start the over on a positive note. Overall, nine runs came off the over.
RR 92/2 (12)
The runs conceded in the over would tell you that it was Rashid Khan who bowled it. It's high time Jos Buttler plays the anchor's role now. RR need him to fire at this moment.
RR 83/2 (11)
Superb bowling from R Sai Kishore. He kept bowling tight lines, knowing that Samson is looking to go big. Just when the RR captain tried to create some room, Kishore followed him and smartly slowed the pace of the ball. As a result, Samson mishit the ball into the hands of long-on fielder Alzarri Joseph. He falls on 47 off 26.
RR 79/2 (9.5)
Rashid Khan once again bowls an economical over. Only two runs came off it. This is brilliant bowling from the Afghanistan spin wizard but he needs support from the other end as well.
RR 75/1 (9)
Sanju Samson is literally hurting Gujarat Titans. He is getting boundaries at will. He is looking so good at the crease that even the Orange Cap holder Jos Buttler is happy keeping him on strike and himself playing a slow knock.
RR 73/1 (8)
Rashid Khan starts with a 6-run over. Be it any field, any pitch, he is always a tough bowler to play. GT have some respite after a long time. But how long can they stop Sanju Samson?... It's gettting interesting...
RR 61/1 (7)
Sanju Samson is in not mood to spare anything tonight. He hit two SIXES in the first over of Alzarri Joseph, who has replaced pacer Lockie Ferguson for this time. RR have got a solid start.
RR 55/1 (6)
Mohammed Shami has not got his rhythm yet and this is proving very costly for Gujarat Titans. The seamer started with five wides and Samson made his over further bad by hitting two FOURS in it.
RR 42/1 (5)
3.1 - SIX! Oh, how good is that for a start! Yash Dayal bowled a tad fuller to Sanju Samson, who trusted the bounce of the pitch and picked the ball from the front foot to hit it over the long-on. East things for Samson!
3.3 - FOUR! Cool! So the idea is clear from Samson, just hit everything that comes in your slot. Confidence at its very best.
10 runs came off the over. RR 28/1 (4)
Yashasvi Jaiswal is out! This is really good bowling from Yash Dayal. He bowled in and out to Jaiswal and kept him guessing before bowling one outside off. The RR opener eventually fell on the trap and edged it to Wriddhiman Saha behind the stumps.
RR 11/1 (2)
Yashasvi Jaiswal takes the strike, Jos Buttler is at the other end. Mohammed Shami has the new ball in hand. Here we go!
Shami bowled full and invited Buttler for the drive. No swing saw Buttler hitting him for two easy FOURS. Nine runs came off the first over.
RR 9/0 (1)
Though the weather is not such, still if the play is not possible tonight, Gujarat Titans will enter the final on the virtue of their number 1 position in IPL 2022 table. However, before that the teams will try to play a Super Over to get a result, in case full 20-over match couldn't start. READ DETAILED REPORT HERE

Gujarat Titans' skipper Hardik Pandya has opted to bowl first against Rajasthan Royals. While RR are unchanged, GT have replaced Lockie Ferguson with Alzarri Joseph.
The weather at Eden Gardens is all good. It won't interrupt the toss. The coin flip coming in five minutes.
The Rajasthan Royals team management has found a wonderful all-rounder in Ravichandran Ashwin. The veteran off-spinner not only makes for a deadly combination with Yuzvendra Chahal, but his contribution with the bat in the middle-order has been noteworthy.
Not considered to be a force at the start of the tournament, Gujarat Titans were the first to enter the IPL playoffs, courtesy some fine cricket by their captain Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia. South African David Miller (381 runs) is having a fine IPL season too.
IPL 2022 has moved to Kolkata and a capacity crowd should turn up to watch IPL debutants Gujarat Titans play. GT may enjoy 'home' support at Eden Gardens due to Bengal boys Wriddhiman Saha and Mohammed Shami.
