Amita Chaudhury has shattered barriers by becoming the first woman of Indian origin to chair the United Nations Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI) Board, under the UNEP Finance Initiative.
Her appointment is not just a professional achievement—it is a landmark for gender equality in global financial leadership. In a sector historically dominated by men, Amita’s rise represents the power of resilience, talent, and purpose-driven leadership to break long-standing ceilings.
With a career spanning Singapore, London, and India, Amita has consistently proven her ability to drive sustainability, diversity, and transformation in business. An alumna of IIM Bangalore and a former senior leader at Unilever, she has earned global recognition, including the Leading Women Award for Sustainable Development by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.
“As a representative of AIA Group, I look forward to working with the PSI Board to advance sustainable insurance practices worldwide,” Amita stated, underscoring her determination to turn progressive ideals into impactful action.
The PSI framework brings together over 500 financial institutions across the globe—insurers, banks, and investors—through the UNEP Finance Initiative headquartered in Geneva. Collectively, they seek to embed sustainability into risk management and investment, creating financial systems that secure both people and the planet.
Amita’s appointment resonates far beyond institutional corridors. It is a beacon for Indian women professionals, demonstrating that global leadership is not bound by geography or gender. By breaking the glass ceiling at one of the highest levels of sustainable finance, she paves the way for future generations of women to take their place at the decision-making table.
Her guiding philosophy—“delivering business value while making a positive impact for the planet and society, through innovation, business integration and partnerships”—has now found its most powerful global platform yet.
