Summary
  • Gujarat Titans won toss, elected to bowl first

  • Royal Challengers Bengaluru bowled out for 155-run total in 19.2 overs

  • Titans chase it down in 15.5 overs to avenge loss to RCB earlier in season

Gujarat Titans (GT) earned sweet revenge for their defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) the previous week with a four-wicket win over the reigning champions in match 42 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday (April 30).

Gujarat's four-pronged pace attack dismissed Bengaluru for 155 despite Virat Kohli’s (28) blazing start when he stroked Kagiso Rabada for five sublime boundaries on the trot in the second over of the innings. The hosts coasted past the 156-run target in 15.5 overs as captain Shubman Gill (43) matched Kohli’s aggression when he smashed Josh Hazlewood (0/56) for 24 runs in the Australian fast bowler’s first over.

RCB stayed at No. 2 in the IPL 2026 standings with 12 points. The Titans are at No. 5 with 10 points from nine games.

Kohli hit five fours and a six in his first 10 balls before Rabada (1/44) fought back strongly. The former India captain spliced a catch to mid-wicket off a sharp short-pitched delivery, as Gill persisted with his premier bowler in the power play.

The Royal Challengers' middle order crumbled after Kohli’s blitz and impact player Venkatesh Iyer flopped in the death overs. Devdutt Padikkal top-scored with 40 off 24 balls before he played on to Rashid Khan (2/19) in the 14th over.

Fast bowler Arshad Khan picked up 3/22 while Jason Holder (2/29) held on to three brilliant catches, that included a breathtaking but contentious diving catch of captain Rajat Patidar while running across from deep backward square.

Several RCB players, including Virat Kohli, were seen having an argument with the umpire as they felt that Holder wasn't in full control while taking the catch, and the ball touched the ground when he landed. The third umpire, though, didn't resonate with their view, and ultimately, Patidar had to go back to the pavilion.

GT Vs RCB, IPL 2026: Toss Update

Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bowl first. "The surface gives swing in the first 4-5 overs. Want to chase in case there is dew," he told Ravi Shastri, adding that they were going with an unchanged XI. Rajat Patidar said he would have bowled first as well, and also went with the same team as their previous match against Delhi Capitals.
