The term of the 70-member Delhi Assembly is ending on February 22 and a new House has to be constituted before that.
While announcing the Delhi election dates, the Election Commission said that the model code of conduct will come into effect immediately.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, in a press conference after the announcement of poll dates, appealed the people of Delhi to "vote for us (AAP) only if you think we have done good work in the last five years".
"We will run a positive campaign, will not abuse anyone," he added.
