A student of Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta has filed a complaint with the Kolkata police alleging being drugged and raped by a another student of the institution inside the boys' hostel room of their campus.
After the complaint was lodged on Friday, the Haridevpur police arrested a second-year student but the reports have not confirmed if he is the prime accused in the case.
This case surfaces within a couple of weeks after a student was raped inside the South Calcutta Law College in Kolkata. The investigation in the case is still in initial stages while the residents of Kolkata repeatedly demand safety measures for women as they cannot forget the brutal rape and death of a junior doctor inside RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata last year.
According to The Telegraph report, the survivor alleged she was "lured to the boys' hostel under the pretext of a counseling session" in her police complaint.
The survivor knew the accused and was reportedly looking to speak to him about their common friend and even though she was accompanied by another person, the accused insisted that they go alone into an empty hostel room.
She was reportedly offered food and drinks after which she cannot recall anything and when she woke up she found herself inside the hostel room.
She further alleged that the accused threatened her with 'dire consequences' if she spoke out.
As per reports, she went to Thakurpukur police station first directly from the IIM campus where she was asked to go to Haridevpur police station.
She filed the complaint with the police on Friday.
The police is investigating the site of the crime and the security measures laid out in the campus.
As per reports, the accused stopped the survivor from signing visitors’ register at the boys’ hostel even though it is mandatory for all to disclose their name and contact before entering the hostel premises.
An officer told TT, "We are trying to find out if the accused had brought other women to the hostel. More people could be involved."
