As the number of positive cases of Coronavirus showed a considerable spike on Sunday, the government has decided to put 75 districts with confirmed COVID-19 cases under a lockdown.
All state governments are set to issue orders in this regard. The essential services will be exempted from the lockdown. It was decided at a meeting in New Delhi on Sunday morning with Chief Secretaries of all states by the Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba and the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, P.K. Misra.
In the national capital, section 144, which restricts assembly of more than four people in an area, will be imposed from 9 pm on Sunday till March 31 as a step to contain the spread of the virus.

The Central and state governments have stepped up the efforts to prevent the further spread of Coronavirus that has already claimed six lives in India.
The Indian Railways has suspended all the passenger trains from March 22 to March 31. Only goods trains will be allowed to run.
The Delhi Metro has also closed down the services till March 31 in view of the Coronavirus outbreak.
Inter-state bus services across the country have also been suspended till March 31 in view of coronavirus outbreak, said the Ministry of Home Affairs.
India reported 341 positive cases of Coronavirus till Sunday afternoon. The country is observing a 'Janata Curfew' on the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who urged people to stay indoors on Sunday to break the chain of transmission of the virus that has claimed thousands of lives globally.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government has urged the people to extend the Janata Curfew till Monday morning. The state has reported 74 Coronavirus cases.
As many as 13,049 people have lost their lives across the globe and the deadly virus has affected 3.7 lakh people.
