World Cup Trophy Arrives In Lucknow 

Fans to get a chance to get up close with the biggest prize in ODI cricket

The ultimate teaser for cricket fans is arriving in Lucknow. On Friday, the ICC World Cup Trophy will be unveiled and put on display at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium, which will host five matches of the marquee event which begins on October 5.  

The trophy will be later moved to other public spots in the city for the weekend. 

This edition marks the first time that Lucknow will get an opportunity to host World Cup matches. Previously, Kanpur had hosted World Cup games in 1987 and then in 1996.    

The unveiling ceremony was scheduled for 4 pm on Friday. Among those expected to be present at the occasion were an ICC delegation, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials and also those from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA).

UPCA CEO Ankit Chatterjee was quoted in the media as saying, “We will display the World Cup trophy on Friday in the company of UP player Saurabh Kumar, ICC officials and UPCA office-bearers. The countdown to the World Cup is a chance for everyone to be part of the event and will set the mood for the biggest event in international cricket.”
