Two world records and a number of meet records were broken in the Eugene leg of the Diamond League, also known as the Prefontaine Classic, at the Hayward Field in University of Oregon on Sunday (July 6, 2025). Women's 1500m legend Faith Kipyegon ran 3:48.68 to take the win and shatter the second WR in Eugene after Beatrice Chebet's historic run in the women's 5000m. Meanwhile, Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo ran a World Leading 19.76s to win the men's 200m, and in non-Diamond League events, men's pole vault legend Mondo Duplantis won expectedly. India’s most decorated javelin thrower, Neeraj Chopra, enthralled the home crowd with yet another scintillating performance to win the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, India’s first-ever World Athletics-sanctioned Gold-level meet, with a best throw of 86.18m at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. The 27-year-old cleared the distance of 86.18m in his third attempt, responding to the pressure built on him by Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage, who had recorded a distance of 84.34m to take the lead.
