Inter Milan are set to face Japanese J1 League side Urawa Red Diamonds in a Group E fixture of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 at Lumen Field in Seattle on 21 June. Both sides are looking for their first win in the tournament, with Inter Milan being held to an opening-day draw by Monterrey, and Urawa losing their match against River Plate.
UEFA Champions League 2024-25 finalists Inter Milan could only manage a 1-1 draw against Mexican outfit CF Monterrey at Rose Bowl Stadium. 39-year-old Sergio Ramos gave Monterrey the lead with a towering header, before Lautaro Martinez equalised just before half-time.
Martinez had a glorious opportunity to win the game for the Italian side, but missed a sitter from inside the penalty box. The draw dampened the debut of their new manager Cristian Chivu, who will now look to claim his first win against Urawa Red Diamonds.
The Japanese side suffered a demoralising 3-1 loss to Argentina’s River Plate in their first game. Going 2-0 down right after half-time, Yusuke Matsuo’s 58th-minute penalty gave some hope to Urawa, but Maximiliano Meza’s 73rd-minute goal put the match to bed.
Maciej Skorza’s side need to secure at least a draw to keep their Club World Cup campaign alive, but it will not be an easy task as Urawa have lost both of their previous CWC fixtures against European sides.
