Monsoon Session Day 2: Parliament's Adjournment Cycle Continues

For the second consecutive day, proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were brought to a standstill on Tuesday as the opposition continued its demand for a discussion on ‘Operation Sindoor,’

The Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned until noon shortly after the House convened for the day. The adjournment came as disruptions continued from protesting opposition members.

An appeal for order was made by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and members were reminded that placards are not permitted within the chamber. The well of the House was entered by several members carrying placards to press their demands, leading to the suspension of the session.

According to PTI, Birla along with Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, urged the protesting members to allow the Question Hour to function, highlighting that important issues concerning farmers were scheduled for discussion.

"This day belongs to the farmers. Please allow the House to function so that we can discuss the issues related to the poor, farmers and the village," Chouhan appealed. However, the opposition remained resolute in its demands.

Similar scenes of protest unfolded in the Rajya Sabha, leading to its adjournment until noon. The opposition's strategy to press the government included the submission of multiple adjournment notices to debate pressing national security concerns, reported PTI

The primary point of contention is the demand for a comprehensive discussion on "Operation Sindoor," which was launched after the tragic Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, where 26 people were killed.

The first day of the Monsoon Session on Monday was a precursor to Tuesday's events, with both Houses being repeatedly adjourned amid chaotic scenes.

The opposition's insistence on a debate on "Operation Sindoor" and the Pahalgam attack led to a complete washout of any significant legislative business. Despite the government's assurance that it was ready for a discussion, the opposition has remained firm on its demand for an immediate debate.

After Operation Sindoor, the opposition is also raising other critical issues, including alleged irregularities in Bihar's electoral rolls and the recent Air India crash, further intensifying the standoff between the government and the opposition benches.
