Former Jharkhand chief minister and senior BJP leader Babulal Marandi has demanded a probe by CBI or by a high court judge into the recent violence here following the alleged desecration of a religious flag. He accused the East Singhbhum administration of being “partial” in tackling the situation during the clash between two groups on April 9.

"We cannot expect justice from the local administration when their approach was partial during the violence at Shastringar on April 9. We demand a probe by CBI or by a sitting judge of the high court," the BJP leader said. Marandi also took part in a protest organised by Hindu Maha-Panchayat at Durga puja maidan in Sakchi here on Sunday.

Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy, Arvind Kumar Singh, the former three-time MLA from Ichagarh assembly constituency, AJSU Party leader Chandragupt Singh, Jharkhand BJP’s ex-president Dineshanand Goswami were among the leaders who participated in the protest.

Marandi also accused the local administration of “protecting the perpetrators”, and said that the JMM-led government's "appeasement policy" was responsible for the violence at Shastrinagar in Jamshedpur.

Over 70 people have been arrested so far for allegedly being involved in the clash, and adequate measures have been taken to bring normalcy in the disturbed area, a senior police officer said.
