I have been an editor for nearly 30 years, but never have I seen such lack of credibility in the media’s ability to conduct an independent enquiry simply because it is in the public interest. When I tell my interlocutors that our submarine investigation is motivated by nothing more than journalistic interest, they look at me as if I am braindead. Maybe I am.
