Former LTTE eastern commander Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan alias Col Karuna defected from V. Prabhakaran's fold in April 2004, which in retrospect helped turn the tide in Colombo's favour. Currently the national integration and reconciliation minister, Col Karuna talked to Amantha Perera. Excerpts:
Why did you finally break away from Prabhakaran?
As a person who knew him well, do you think Prabhakaran will fight till the end or commit suicide?
Are you satisfied with the political process Colombo introduced in the eastern province?
The LTTE is on its last legs. What do you think are the essential elements of a political package that could help address the alienation of the Tamils?
What role did India play in what should be the imminent defeat of the LTTE by the Lankan forces?
How do you react to the outcry in Tamil Nadu, by CM M. Karunanidhi and other politicians, against Colombo's refusal to observe a ceasefire?
Do you think the charges of genocide, violation of human rights etc levelled against the Sri Lankan government is correct?
