When a demand comes from the militant of the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) or the Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC), no law enforcer or constitutional authority can protect those who do not pay up.
In spite of the peace talks with the NSCN-IM and an official ceasefire with the Khaplang faction, the government remains a mute spectator to large-scale 'tax collection' drives in the state and around it.
Both the NSCN factions have been taught a much needed lesson by the people on whose behalf they claim to act - lynching of their cadres by angry mobs and mass protests will certainly force some rethinking.
