Chennai Super Kings delivered a stunning blow to Gujarat Titans' ambitions of a top-two finish in the IPL 2025, clinching a comprehensive 83-run victory on Sunday in Ahmedabad. Powered by explosive half-centuries from Devon Conway and Dewald Brevis, Chennai Super Kings put up a formidable total that proved far beyond the reach of the league leaders. (Match Highlights)

Opting to bat first on a sweltering afternoon, Chennai Super Kings laid a strong foundation, eventually posting a massive 230 for five. The innings was ignited by an early onslaught from Ayush Mhatre, who blasted 34 off just 17 deliveries, including a 28-run over against Arshad Khan.

Veteran Devon Conway (52 off 35 balls) anchored one end while Urvil Patel (37 off 19 balls) maintained the aggressive tempo. However, it was Dewald Brevis who truly stole the show, living up to his 'Baby ABD' moniker with a blistering 57 from a mere 23 balls.

His entertaining fifth-wicket partnership of 74 runs with Ravindra Jadeja (21 off 18) propelled CSK to their commanding score. Faced with a daunting target of 231, the Gujarat Titans' chase faltered from the outset.

The in-form top order, including skipper Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and Sherfane Rutherford, was dismantled within the Powerplay, leaving them reeling at 35 for three. Pacer Anshul Kamboj was the chief destroyer, accounting for Gill and Rutherford.

A glimmer of hope emerged through a 55-run fourth-wicket stand between Sai Sudharsan (41 off 28 balls) and M Shahrukh Khan (19).

However, the resurgence was short-lived. Ravindra Jadeja, returning for his second spell, struck a decisive double blow in the 11th over, dismissing both set batsmen in the space of four deliveries.

From that point, the Titans' innings unravelled quickly, and they were eventually bowled out for 147 in 18.3 overs.

Despite the heavy defeat, Gujarat Titans remain at the summit of the table with 18 points from their 14 league matches, though their Net Run Rate has taken a significant hit. Their chances of securing a crucial top-two spot now hinge on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (17 points) losing their final league fixture against Lucknow Super Giants.

A win for either Mumbai Indians (16 points) or Punjab Kings (17 points) in their upcoming clash would see them leapfrog GT. For Chennai Super Kings, the victory was a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing campaign.

They concluded their IPL 2025 journey at the bottom of the 10-team table with eight points from 14 matches, marking the five-time champions' poorest showing in the league's history. Nevertheless, the performances of their young batters like Mhatre, Patel, and Brevis offered a positive note for the seasons to come.
