As the four men convicted in the Nirbhaya gangrape case are now hours away from being hanged, their parents have suggested that the convicts should be handed over to the World Health Organization (WHO) for coronavirus clinical trial.

“I have lost everything. I know I cannot save him now. So I make a plea to the government that they should be used for a clinical trial for coronavirus. By doing so, their life will be used to save humanity,” said Heeral Lal Gupta, father of one of the convicts.

The convicts had filed various petitions in the lower court and the Supreme Court highlighting various grounds for a stay on hanging on Thursday. However, both the courts dismissed these petitions as frivolous and devoid of any merit.

Now nothing can stop the Tihar Jail authorities to hang them on Friday morning at 5:30 as all the preparations are ready.

Suresh, brother of another death row convict Mukesh, said that if the government takes any step in this direction, he will welcome it.

AP Singh, the lawyer for three death-row convicts, had pleaded earlier that the four men should be recruited in the Indian Army and deployed in border areas.

He also agreed to the plea of relatives for their use to look for a solution for the medical emergency like Coronavirus.

“The organisations are looking for people who can come volunteer for a clinical trial. Here in India, we are killing them by hanging which serves no purpose. I request the government to use their lives for a bigger cause,” Singh said.
