Airports are usually measured by passenger traffic, terminal size or the number of runways they have. King Fahd International Airport in Saudi Arabia has a rather different claim to fame: land area. Covering about 780 sq km, the airport is larger than Singapore’s 2026 land area of 745.1 sq km. The surprising part? Much of that enormous footprint is undeveloped desert, so you are not going to spend your layover walking through 780 sq km of duty-free shops and departure gates.
